Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam police solved a robbery case within hours of the crime and arrested four persons—three from Bihar and one from Jharkhand—on Saturday. They recovered the entire stolen property worth Rs. 15 lakhs.

The arrested have been identified as Mithlesh Kumar Yadhav (19), Mukesh Kumar (27), and Pradep Yadhav (28) from Bihar and Chandan Kumar (22) from Jharkhand. The prime accused was an employee of the complainant.

The commissioner of police, Ch. Srikanth, said Chanchal Gupta, a resident of MVP Colony and owner of a welding material shop in Vizag city, lodged a complaint stating that four unknown persons entered his residence at around 9.25 p.m on Friday, locked the doors from inside, and threatened his parents with a weapon. They placed a blade on the throat of his 3-year-old son and demanded his parents pay Rs. 20 lakhs cash.

When Mr. Gupta's 72-year-old father Ashok Kumar tried to resist them, the thieves attacked and injured him. They later taped his mouth and took away over 350 gms of gold ornaments, diamond and silver ornaments, three wristwatches, two mobile phones, and Rs. 7,000 cash—all worth over Rs. 15 lakhs. Later, the accused fled the spot with the booty.

On receipt of the complaint, DCP (crimes) G. Naganna formed special teams on Friday night and nabbed the accused within six hours after the crime. They were caught while they were trying to board a train at Vizag railway station. The police recovered the entire stolen goods from the four.
