Malakpet: DCA raids fertility centre running pharmacy with a fake drug license, seizes drugs worth Rs 10 lakh

Hyderabad: Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana officials raided Iswarya Fertility Centre at Malakpet, which was running a pharmacy with a ‘fake drug license’ and seized huge stocks of medicines worth Rs 10 lakhs.

As per DCA officials, Iswarya Fertility Centre, Malakpet produced a forged or fabricated drug license to the officers of DCA during the raid, which was found to be a falsified document.

Drugs Control Administration (DCA) Telangana officials, on credible information, raided Iswarya Fertility Centre located at D. No. 16-2-741/D/5, Beside TV Tower, New Malakpet, Hyderabad. The Centre is running a pharmacy called ‘Iswarya Fertility Services Pvt. Ltd.’ with a forged drug licence.

During the raid, Anil Bodasu, Head-Administration of Iswarya Fertility Centre submitted a license document to DCA officials, which was confirmed as ‘fake,’ after verification on DCA Telangana drug licence database. The details of the ‘pharmacist’ were also found to be fake.

Illegal stocking and sale of medicines

The Centre was also illegally stocking and selling medicines without a valid drug license issued by DCA, Telangana. During the raid, DCA officials detected a huge stock of medicines in the pharmacy, which included sex hormone drugs like Estradiol tablets, Progesterone capsules, other hormone injections, steroid injections, anti ulcer drugs, antibiotics etc. DCA officials seized 27 varieties of medicines worth Rs 10 lakhs during the raid.

Assistant Director D Saritha, Drugs Inspectors G Anil, B Govind Singh, B Lakshminarayana were among the officers who carried out the raid.

Public can check if a pharmacy holds genuine license

As per the provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act, drug licenses are issued through Online Drug Licensing System (ODLS) website of DCA, Telangana for stocking and selling of medicines. Public may verify whether a medical shop/pharmacy holds a genuine license issued by DCA, Telangana or not through ‘Third Party Verification.’

Public may enter the name of the pharmacy or medical shop in the ‘search box’ under ‘Third Party Verification’ of ODLS website https://odls.telangana.gov.in/ThirdPartypublicview.aspx and verify the details of the drug licenses issued by DCA, Telangana to the medical shop/pharmacy, to check whether the medical shop/pharmacy is authorised to sell medicines or not.

Imprisonment upto five years for violation

“Stocking and sale of medicines without a valid drug license is punishable under Drugs and Cosmetics Act with an imprisonment up to five years. DCA, Telangana has been constantly on the vigil and alert to detect unlicensed stocking and illegal sale of medicines. Surprise raids are intensified on such premises that are carrying out stocking and sale of drugs without any drug license. Stringent action shall be taken as per the law against violators,” informed V B Kamalasanreddy, director general, DCA, Telangana.
