Hyderabad: Ranga Reddy District Court has denied bail to Pallepaka Mohan, son of a senior police officer in the Malnadu drugs case.

Court cites case sensitivity

The judge observed that granting bail to the accused at this stage could interfere with ongoing investigations. Mohan’s counsel alleged that his client was subjected to illegal custodial detention for more than five days before being produced in court.

Case origin and initial raid

The investigation began with a police raid on July 7 at Malnadu Restaurant, Kompally, during which alleged drug peddler Surya Annamaneni was arrested. A search of his vehicle yielded 10 grams of cocaine, 3.2 grams of OG Kush, a premium strain of ganja, and 1.6 grams of ecstasy pills.

Police also recovered additional cocaine concealed in the heel compartment of a woman’s slipper, which had been packed in a pink box and couriered from New Delhi using a fictitious sender’s name. His confession reportedly revealed a wider network, leading to multiple arrests.

Other high-profile arrests

Among those taken into custody was Rahul Tej, son of another police personnel, whose bail plea was also rejected. The case has drawn attention for the alleged involvement of individuals from law enforcement families.

Seven arrested, several absconding

So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the racket. While some have secured bail, others, including Mohan and Rahul Tej, remain in judicial custody. Police say several accused are absconding, and a manhunt is underway.

Probe into wider network

Investigators are probing possible links to interstate drug cartels and suspect more arrests are imminent. The case has become a priority for enforcement agencies, given its scale and high-profile nature.
