Man held for kidnapping, raping minor in Vizag; had history of sexual offences
The accused was on a bike when he approached her and interacted with her in the guise of inquiring about the HCG Hospital
By Newsmeter Network Published on 18 April 2023 12:51 PM GMTVisakhapatnam: The Vizag city police arrested a 23-year-old man for kidnapping and raping a nine-year-old girl (a class-IV student) near Mudasarlova Park under Arilova police station limits in Vizag city.
Though the heinous crime took place on 9 April, Gondela Sai Kumar alias Sai was arrested on Tuesday. The Ariloval police had earlier arrested Sai Kumar for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Vizag city in October 2022.
The Visakhapatnam commissioner of police, C.M. Thrivikram Varma, said the crime took place when the girl was playing with her friends near her residence under the Arilova police station limits in Vizag city. The accused was on a bike when he approached her and interacted with her in the guise of inquiring about the HCG Hospital. Later, he kidnapped her and took her to an isolated place and allegedly raped her. He also threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to others.
The victim narrated the entire episode to her mother and her family members. The girlās mother lodged a complaint with the Arilova police on the same day. The girlās statement was recorded and a medical examination conducted.
Arilova inspector G. Soma Sekhar registered a case against the accused under sections 366, 376 and 506 of the IPC and section 6 r/w 5(m) of the POCSO Act 2012. Assistant commissioner of police, Disha police station, Ch. Vivekananda investigated the case.
Based on the evidence, the police nabbed the accused and seized a bike from him. The police said Sai Kumar had committed sexual offences against girl children and was a paedophile. He had committed a similar offence under the Arilova police station limits in Vizag city on 29 October 2022 and was arrested the same day. The case was charged on 13 February 2023 and it is pending trial. Though the accused spent over two months in the Central prison in Vizag and was released in January 2023 on conditional bail, he didnāt mend his ways.
Vizag CP Thrivikram Varma said they will intensify the investigation and ensure a speedy trial in the cases against the accused.
