Hyderabad: A 43-year-old man, Servathi Narasimha Chary, allegedly tried to set himself on fire in front of Allwyn Colony corporator Dodla Venkatesh Goud's house on the evening of 5 September.
Jagathgirigutta police station SHO P. Saidulu said a case has been registered. Narasimha, a carpenter and resident of Bachupally, alleged that corporator Goud and his son owe him money. According to the police, the man tried to kill himself to recover the money owed to him.
According to Narasimha, Goud owes him Rs. 1 lakh and his son owes Rs. 1.5 lakh for various works he has done for the family.
On Monday, Narasimha poured doused his body with petrol and set himself on fire. Nearby residents rushed to save him. The SHO said he received burns on his face and some parts of his body. Narasimha is out of danger and is currently receiving treatment, he added.
The police said an investigation is underway and action will be taken accordingly.
