Mass foundation: Malkajgiri Cops arrest 3 for illegal sale of O2 cylinders through an NGO

Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri police arrested three persons on 26 April for running a black market operation and illegally selling oxygen cylinders through an NGO.

On Monday, the police received information that some persons were illegally transporting oxygen cylinders and were proceeding towards Moula Ali, ECIL. Malkajgiri sub-inspector J. Ashok Kumar and his staff along with the SOT team started checking vehicles at ZTS crossroads in Moula Ali. They intercepted a van, searched it, and found five oxygen cylinders (150 litres each).

The driver, Syed Abdulla (30), and his accomplice Mohammed Mazar (37) were unable to produce documents regarding the oxygen cylinders. They were taken into custody along with the five oxygen cylinders and the van.

The police inquiry revealed that Syed Asif (34) of Kanchanbagh was operating a scam through his NGO, 'Mass foundation'. He was procuring oxygen cylinders for Rs. 16,000 each and then selling them for Rs. 25,000 to needy patients. He had recruited Abdulla and Mazar to help him. They were illegally hoarding and transporting crucial oxygen cylinders that are in high demand among COVID-19 patients.
