Matrimonial fraud: 2 from AP held for scamming person of Rs 5 lakh

Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime police apprehended two persons for cheating persons in matrimonial fraud. The accused have been identified as Tamma Hema Mani alias Preeti Reddy (37) and Konda Reddy (42). Both are residents of Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.
Case details
The crimes came to light after a Hyderabad resident reported that in May 2024, he started communicating with an unknown woman through a divorce matrimony app.
The woman introduced herself as Dr Prithi Reddy, a cardiologist with MBBS and MD qualifications, and claimed to be divorced. Over time, the victim and the fraudster became close friends on various social media platforms. The fraudster eventually proposed marriage and the victim accepted the proposal.
After a few days, the fraudster requested money from the victim, citing the need for funds to treat a patient. However, she did not repay the amount. Later, she contacted the victim again, claiming that her mother had passed away and that she urgently needed more money. Trusting her, the victim transferred a total of Rs 4, 97,200 in multiple transactions and later realised he was deceived.

The team headed by Inspector of police Madhulatha consisting of team members SI Praneetha, PC Sagar, PC Bhaskar and WPC Praneetha has cracked the case in Andhra Pradesh.
