Matrimony fraud: Nellore conwoman uses fake profiles to trap NRI men, dupe them

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police on Friday arrested a woman for posting fake profiles in Telugu matrimony sites and cheating NRI men.

Korem Swathi of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, used many aliases and some of them are Archana, Jutuoori Varaprasad Archana, Jutuoori Indira Priyadarshini, and Pushtayi. She completed her MBA from SV University after which she married Koram Durga Praveen of Ranganayakulupeta, Nellore, who is a lecturer.

The Cyberabad, Rachakonda, and Hyderabad cyber crime police had, earlier, arrested her in several cases for cheating men by promising to marry them. She had been released on bail.

According to the police, Swathi posted fake profiles in Telugu matrimony sites with photos downloaded from Google. She sought only foreign alliances. She posted fake foreign virtual numbers in the matrimony profiles generated from Second Line mobile apps. When prospective bridegrooms or their parents started interacting with her on the virtual mobile number, she would speak to them in different voices using ADCOM voice modulation software. Once she had trapped the NRI bridegrooms or their parents, she accepted their proposals.

She would then convince them that she was in India on a short visit from the US. When the prospective groom or his parents asked to meet her parents, she would make demands and collect huge amounts from them. She would stop responding to their calls once she received the money.

The Rachakonda police have advised people seeking prospective brides online to meet them in person and confirm their identities and addresses through known sources. They have also warned people against virtual foreign mobile numbers and asked them not to make any financial payments or transactions.
