Medak custodial death: HC calls for records from police
The High Court, on Monday, took up the matter as suo motu writ petition based on media reports.

Tukaramji will adjudicate the suo motu writ petition pertaining to the alleged custodial death of Md. Qadeer, a daily wage worker from Medak.
Qadeer died in police custody after the Medak police took him under custody for an alleged chain-snatching case on 27 January.

When the police sensed that the Opposition parties were creating an issue regarding the alleged lock-up death, they shifted Qadeer to Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad, where he died while undergoing treatment on 16 February. His family alleged that Qadeer died due to the third-degree torture meted out to him by the Medak police.
The director general of police ordered a probe into the alleged lock-up death of Md. Qadeer.
The chief secretary, principal secretary (Home), the DGP, and Medak SP are the respondents in the suo motu writ petition.
