Medak custodial death: HC calls for records from police
The High Court, on Monday, took up the matter as suo motu writ petition based on media reports.

Hyderabad: A Telangana High Court Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji will adjudicate the suo motu writ petition pertaining to the alleged custodial death of Md. Qadeer, a daily wage worker from Medak.
Qadeer died in police custody after the Medak police took him under custody for an alleged chain-snatching case on 27 January.

When the police sensed that the Opposition parties were creating an issue regarding the alleged lock-up death, they shifted Qadeer to Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad, where he died while undergoing treatment on 16 February. His family alleged that Qadeer died due to the third-degree torture meted out to him by the Medak police.
The director general of police ordered a probe into the alleged lock-up death of Md. Qadeer.
The chief secretary, principal secretary (Home), the DGP, and Medak SP are the respondents in the suo motu writ petition.
