Hyderabad: A bizarre robbery took place on Saturday night in Bowenpally when two unidentified men, one disguised in a police uniform, allegedly stole Rs 5 lakh in cash from an office boy on a service road near Suchitra.

According to Bowenpally police, the robbery came to light after a complaint was lodged by Arun Kumar Bahera, a 30-year-old office boy employed at Global Adsorbent in Secunderabad. Bahera, a resident of New Bowenpally, narrated the sequence of events that unfolded late Saturday evening. While he was in his room, his companyā€™s branch manager, Bikram Behera, handed him Rs 5 lakh in cash with instructions to deliver it to assistant branch manager Satya Panda, who resides near Russh Hospital in Suchitra.

Bahera set out on his office bike to complete the task. However, at approximately 9:35 pm, as he reached the nursery opposite the Congress Gandhian Ideology Centre on the service road, two individuals stopped him. One of the men was dressed in a police uniform, while the other wore civilian clothes.

The duo reportedly halted Baheraā€™s bike stating a routine check, and asked for his driving license and registration certificate (RC). During the inspection, they searched his bag, discovered the cash and confiscated the entire amount. The men allegedly told Bahera, ā€œCome to the police station with your owner,ā€ before fleeing the scene in their vehicle.

Shocked by the incident, Bahera immediately contacted Bikram Behera and Satya Panda to inform them of the robbery. The two company officials rushed to his location and together they went to the Bowenpally Police Station to report the incident. The police have registered a case under Sections 204, 318(4), and 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.
