Mercedes hit-and-run: Cops seize vehicle at Talab katta; fail to nab driver

Hyderabad: The Hussainialam police have seized the high-end Mercedes SUV that ran amok on Wednesday killing one. However, they have failed to arrest the accused even after 24 hours after the incident. A woman died while five others were injured after the speeding car hit them in the Shahalibanda area in the Old City on Wednesday evening.

The police identified the vehicle owner from CCTV footage and recovered the vehicle from the Talab katta Bhavaninagar police station area. According to eyewitnesses, a white car coming from Khilwat towards Shahaliband hit an auto-rickshaw leaving one woman, identified as Salamma, dead and injuring two others, including the auto driver.

According to the police, Salamma, who is a resident of the Bandlaguda area, died on the spot, while the auto driver, Salahuddin, and another person, Yashwant, were injured. They were taken to Osmania General Hospital for treatment.

The police have identified the vehicle owner who had taken his new Mercedes car out for a joyride with his friend. The car driver had also injured two other persons in the Moghalpura area before reaching his house in Talab Katta.

The accident created a sensation in the Old City and resulted in a traffic jam at Shahalibanda. The Hussainialam police have reportedly identified the accused, who is a resident of Talab Katta. Police sources said that a hit-and-run case has been registered and efforts are on to apprehend him.
