Hyderabad: Anger has swept across Nagarkurnool district after two heavily drunk minor boys stormed the house of a widow and brutally raped her two minor daughters at Lingala on New Year.
The boys even filmed the act on their mobile phones and threatened to make it public if the victims informed the police.
Initially, police dragged their feet on registering a case. However after the Minister for Women & Child Welfare Satyavathi Rathod intervened, Nagarkurnool police registered a case. The minister asked the police to submit a detailed report on the incident.
The incident occurred on January 1 but came to light on Monday. The boys, who got heavily drunk at a New Year party in the town, barged into the house of a widow and raped her two girls. They shot the whole episode on their mobile phones.
Since the family was scared to approach police, the village elders got a whiff and settled the issue in the Panchayat.
However, after the minister's intervention, police registered a case of gang rape and the POCSO act on Monday. Police later arrested the accused. One of the boys has a past record of crime. They will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, police said.
Minister Satyavathi stated that any violation of women and child rights will be dealt with an iron hand in Telangana. Directing the police to expedite the investigation, she assured support to the victims from the government.
