Hyderabad: A 40-year-old teacher was arrested in Nalgonda for harassing women on the streets. For the last few days, the man had been harassing women who were making rangolis in the morning in front of their houses. He also touched women on the streets without their consent, showed them pornographic content on his phone, and threw stones at them.
On receiving complaints from the SHE team, Nalgonda 2 town police launched a special operation and with the help of CCTV cameras, arrested the man. Rema Rajeshwari, the Nalgonda SP, said, "This has been happening for a few days but the women saw it as a petty issue and did not come forward to complain. Then the SHE teams received some calls and we started an operation. By collecting and analysing CCTV footage with the help of our technical team, we traced the offender."
The SP urged all women to use the services provided by the police department. "If women rule it out as petty issues and do not inform the police, it will only embolden such offenders. We want to nip it in the bud," she said.
The Nalgonda SP urged all local women residents to use facilities like dial 100 or the SHE teams. She also said that a woman can file a complaint without revealing her identity and asked them not to hesitate. She warned that strict action will be taken against those who harass women and young girls and that the SHE teams are constantly monitoring such offenders. Meanwhile, after his arrest on Monday, the accused was remanded to judicial custody.
Women who face indecent behaviour can dial 100 or contact the SHE teams at 9963393970.
