Sangareddy: Police have registered a case against a former councillor of Narayankhed on charges of harassment and misbehaviour with minor girls residing at a State-run girls’ hostel in Sangareddy district.
Accused entered hostel in inebriated condition
According to police, the accused, who is in his mid-30s and the son of the hostel warden, frequently visited the hostel and allegedly misbehaved with the inmates. Some of the girls claimed that he entered the premises in an inebriated condition and harassed them.
Complaint ignored by warden, workers abused inmates
Despite raising the issue with the hostel warden, no action was reportedly taken against the accused. Instead, two hostel workers allegedly abused the girls for complaining, police said.
Official inquiry led to police complaint
An assistant BC welfare official visited the hostel and conducted an inquiry after learning about the incident. Subsequently, a complaint was lodged with the police against the former councillor, his mother, who is the warden, and two hostel workers.
Case under POCSO Act and BNS
Based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), a police official said.
The district BC welfare officer has also initiated a departmental inquiry against the warden and the hostel workers. Further investigation is in progress.
