Narcotics valued at Rs 4.56 crore destroyed by Hyderabad Police as part of 2025 crackdown

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police destroyed narcotic substances worth over Rs 4.56 crore on Thursday as part of its first drug disposal phase for 2025.

The disposal covered 128 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act across 26 police stations in the city between 2019 and 2025.

Contraband destroyed across multiple categories

The drugs were destroyed at GJ Multiclave (India) Pvt. Ltd., Edulapalle, Nandigama mandal, Ranga Reddy district, under the supervision of the Drug Disposal Committee, Hyderabad City Police.

The committee is chaired by N Swetha, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Detective Department, and operates under the oversight of Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar, IPS.

The destroyed substances included:

• Ganja: 1,585.9 kg

• Cocaine: 6.47 g

• MDMA: 159.4 g

• Hash oil: 4,450 ml

• LSD: 4 blots

• Ecstasy pills: 4.6 g

• Nitravet tablets: 3

• OBC paper: 2 sheets

Police officials estimated the total value of the contraband at Rs 4,56,43,930.

Officials stress transparent process

Speaking after the disposal, DCP N Swetha said the operation was conducted following all environmental and legal protocols.

“Every step was carried out in accordance with NDPS procedures to ensure transparency. This process ensures that seized narcotics cannot re-enter circulation,” she said.

Commissioner Sajjanar lauded the initiative, calling it part of a larger, consistent effort to keep the city drug-free.

“We remain committed to dismantling networks involved in the narcotics trade and to building awareness about the dangers of drug abuse,” he said.

Part of ongoing city-wide effort

The Hyderabad Police regularly disposes of seized drugs in phases to maintain accountability and prevent stockpiling. In 2024 alone, drugs worth Rs 10.56 crore were destroyed over two phases, covering 326 cases.

Officials said this regular disposal demonstrates the department’s focus on both enforcement and procedural integrity.

Community awareness and enforcement continue

Beyond seizure and destruction, the police have been conducting awareness campaigns in educational institutions and public spaces to discourage drug use. Enforcement against peddlers, suppliers, and transporters continues through coordinated operations under the NDPS Act.

“Public cooperation is vital,” DCP Swetha added. “We urge citizens to report any information related to drug trafficking or consumption to the police.”
