New Year drug checks across Hyderabad: 65 screened, one tests positive for cannabis

Hyderabad: During special inspections conducted as part of the New Year enforcement drive, Hyderabad City Police screened 40 suspicious persons on December 27 using Rapid Drug Testing Kits, with one individual testing positive for cannabis.

On December 28, another 25 persons were screened and all tested negative, officials said.

Special cluster teams deployed

The checks were carried out by special cluster teams formed by the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) on the instructions of the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad. The city was divided into 10 clusters to strengthen surveillance during the festive season.

Surprise checks at pubs and clubs

In coordination with the Law & Order Police, City Armed Reserve (CAR) personnel and the Narcotic Dog Squad, teams conducted surprise inspections at pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants across Hyderabad City to prevent drug abuse and maintain public order.

Decoy teams as part of special drive

As part of the New Year Special Drive, seven decoy teams were deployed on December 27 and eight decoy teams on December 28. The inspections were carried out discreetly without causing inconvenience to establishment management or the general public.

Senior officers supervised operations

The cluster teams were led by Inspectors GS Daniel and S Balaswamy of H-NEW, under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force / H-NEW) Vaibhav Gaikwad.

Police assure continued vigil

Hyderabad City Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring drug-free, safe and peaceful New Year celebrations, stating that such special drives will continue during the festive period to deter offenders and safeguard public interest.
