Nigerian DJ deported from Hyderabad for illegal stay, suspected drug links
Hyderabad: Hyderabad police have deported a 30-year-old Nigerian national who had been overstaying on an expired student visa and was suspected of building drug-peddling networks while working as a DJ in city pubs.
Patrol leads to a break
During routine checks in the Langer House area, the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) intercepted Ali-Enuke Fortunatus Akudinanwa, alias Fortune.
Initial questioning and a background scan showed his passport and visa had lapsed years ago, yet he continued to live and work in the city.
Paper trail exposes illegal stay
Although no narcotics were seized, officers confirmed through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) that Fortune’s stay was unauthorised. Investigators said intelligence indicated he had been exploring drug peddling to supplement his DJ income.
Swift deportation move
To prevent further illegal activity, H-NEW coordinated with the FRRO and fast-tracked deportation, flying the Nigerian national back to his home country within days.
Police warning
City police cautioned that some foreigners overstay visas and slip into the drug trade, fuelling addiction in Hyderabad’s youth.
Residents have been urged to stay vigilant and report drug-related information to 8712661601.
“Every case like this is a step toward a drug-free Hyderabad,” said YVS Sudheendra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force/H-NEW.
