Nizamabad: A 42-year-old constable was stabbed to death by a habitual offender when he was taking the accused to a police station in Nizamabad city on October 17.
Constable E Pramod was taking Sheikh Riyad on a two-wheeler when the latter stabbed him.
Fatal attack during duty
The attack took place between 8.30 pm and 9 pm when Constable Pramod was transporting Riyad, apprehended in connection with a case. Riyad reportedly stabbed the constable in the chest and fled the scene. Pramod succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Accused a Known Criminal
Police identified the accused as a habitual offender involved in vehicle thefts and chain snatching. Authorities have launched an intensive search operation to track and apprehend him.
DGP orders special teams
Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy expressed profound grief over the death of the “sincere and duty-minded constable.”
He instructed Nizamabad Police Commissioner P Sai Chaitanya to form special teams to nab the accused and directed Multi-Zone-I IGP S Chandrashekhar Reddy to visit Nizamabad and monitor the situation closely.
Family support and investigation priority
The DGP assured that all possible assistance would be extended to Pramod’s bereaved family. The investigation is being treated as a top priority, with strict action to be taken against those responsible for the heinous act.
