Notorious interstate criminal who rented cars, stole them arrested

The sleuths of the special operation team, Shamshabad zone, Cyberabad, and the Madhapur police arrested a notorious interstate criminal on 9 April and recovered six cars and a motorcycle, all worth Rs. 70 lakhs.

Notorious interstate criminal who rented cars, stole them arrested

Hyderabad: The sleuths of the special operation team, Shamshabad zone, Cyberabad, and the Madhapur police arrested a notorious interstate criminal on 9 April and recovered six cars and a motorcycle, all worth Rs. 70 lakhs.

The accused has been identified as Gudati Mahesh Nuthan Kumar (27). According to the police he would took rooms on a sharing basis with various men in different cities and then steal their cash and documents like Aadhar card and driving license. He would then use their Aadhar to rent cars from different companies like Zoom Cars, Drivezy Cars, Revv Cars, and Royal Brothers then remove the GPS devices, the original number plate, and sell them. He has committed thefts in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharastra, and West Bengal.

Mahesh completed BTech (EEE) in 2016 and came to Hyderabad where he started working as a mobile technician at Malakpet. There he stole mobile phones and accessories and was arrested by the Malakpet police. He returned home to his village in Bhimavaram where he stole a camera in 2018 and was sent to jail.

After that, he returned to Hyderabad where he stole a car, a laptop, and Rs. 25,000 cash. He was arrested by the SR Nagar police in all three cases and released from jail in December 2019. In June 2020, he robbed his roommate Nagendra Prasad in Panjagutta and stole Rs. 1,60,000 cash and his Aadhar card and driving license. In July Mahesh left for Bangalore where he rented a Royal Enfield bike using Prasad's identity cards and later stole it after removing the GPS tracker and went to Vizag.

Again he took a room with two others - Chaitanya and Ajay – in Vizag. He stayed there for two months and stole Rs. 30,000 cash and Aadhar and driving license of the two men. He fled to Pune where he shared a room with Sathish. He stayed there for two months and stole Rs. 1,80,000 cash and the Aadhar and driving license and fled to Hyderabad.

He committed similar offenses in Kerala in 2020 where he stole a Volkswagen Polo from Zoom Cars using Sathish's ID cards and in Chennai where he has rented a Swift car from Revv cars. In January 2021, he went to Mysore where he stole a Baleno from Drivezy cars. Last week, he went to Kolkata where he rented an Innova Crysta car from Revv cars using Nagendra Prasad's identity cards.

Mahesh also issued a fake advertisement in OLX to hire drivers. Seeing this advertisement Kiran from Toopranpet in Bhuvanagiri District contacted him. The accused collected his Aadhar card and driving license then used them to rent and steal a Swift car from Zoom cars, Madhapur, in February 2021. In March he went to Bangalore and stole a Hyundai Verna from Zoom Cars.
