Ongole: Robbers storm Hyderabad Express, decamp with passengers’ gold
The theft happened on Sunday night between 1.50 am on Hyderabad Express and at 3 am on the Charminar Express trains
By Newsmeter Network Published on 14 Aug 2023 6:37 AM GMTOngole: Unidentified burglars robbed passengers of Hyderabad Express between Ulavapadu-Tettu railway stations in Ongole district.
The theft happened on Sunday night between 1.50 am on Hyderabad Express and at 3 am on the Charminar Express trains.
First, thieves looted passengers in the S1, S2, and S3 coaches of the Hyderabad Express, traveling from Secunderbad to Chennai. After that, they entered the Charminar Express train traveling from Secunderabad to Tambaram but escaped immediately after escort police were alerted.
Speaking to NewsMeter, Ongole Government Railway Police (GRP) SI Venkateswarulu said: "On Sunday midnight, four thieves were involved in a theft of Hyderabad express train near Ulavapadu railway station. While 1-2 robbers snatched away three gold chains from women passengers and escaped in an auto-rickshaw which was already kept by the gang near the Ulavapadu station area."
Later, the thieves entered into coaches of Charminar Express. However, the escort guard inside the train was alerted and he switched on the lights immediately. They jumped from the train and escaped in the auto-rickshaw.
A case has been registered and teams are formed to nab the culprits.
