Andhra Pradesh: The Special Enforcement Bureau and the police booked 3,403 cases and arrested 2,066 people during raids on illicit liquor establishments in Andhra Pradesh. This was a part of Operation Parivartan 2.0, conducted from 3 to 26 March.

According to the SEB officials, 17 cases under the PD Act have been booked since 2020 to date, including four cases in Chittoor, three each in Krishna and Guntur, five in West Godavari, and two in Anantapur districts. Last week, the SEB booked four under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act who had been caught several times earlier manufacturing and selling arrack in West Godavari and Guntur districts.

"Although we have been counselling people involved in illicit liquor sale, there has been no change in their behaviour and they are trying to pursue the same profession in different ways. Such persons were booked under the PD Act," said an SEB official.

During Operation Parivartan 2.0, the SEB also seized 44,058 litres of alcohol and 155 vehicles. Also, 16,04,741 litres of fermented gingerbread used for brewing and 73,734 kg of black jaggery was destroyed.
