Authorities reiterated that drunk driving is a serious offence. In cases where an intoxicated driver causes a fatal accident, they will be booked under Section 105 of the law (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), which carries a punishment of up to 10 years imprisonment along with a fine.
Court disposals reflect tough enforcement
Between April 5 and 11, courts disposed of 218 drunk driving cases:
30 offenders were sentenced to jail, along with fines
2 offenders were given fines and community service
186 offenders were fined

Traffic police across all three commissionerates emphasised that enforcement drives will continue regularly. Officials urged motorists to refrain from driving under the influence and to follow traffic rules strictly to ensure safer roads for all.
