Overspeeding Verna crashed against divider, lands on auto and bike, 3 killed at Medchal

Hyderabad: Three people, including a child, were killed by a speeding car in Medchal on Saturday. The driver was reportedly drunk when the car hit a divider at Rekula Bavi near Athvelly village on the Hyderabad Nagpur National highway.

The police believe that the driver was already speeding and when he reached the Rekulabavi area, he lost control of his vehicle while navigating a small curve and crashed into the divider. The car landed on the other side of the road and hit an auto-rickshaw and a motorbike.

A woman, Lavanya, and her son Kaushik who were travelling in the auto-rickshaw died on the spot while three others in the vehicle sustained injuries. Sudheer Varma who was on the motorbike was also crushed to death on the spot when the car landed on his vehicle and trapped him under it. According to the police, the auto-rickshaw and the motorbike were proceeding towards Toopran from Medchal and the car was coming towards the city in the opposite stretch.

Traffic on the busy highway came to a standstill following the accident. Alerted by locals, the police rushed to the spot and took the injured persons to nearby hospitals. The bodies were sent for postmortem. The vehicles involved in the accident were also pulled off the road.

The police have registered a case against the driver of the car who has escaped and launched a search to find him.
