Palnadu tragedy: 6 women labourers killed, 6 injured in hit and run case

By Newsmeter Network Published on 17 May 2023 5:25 AM GMTPalnadu: Six women were killed and six were severely injured after a lorry rammed into an auto-rickshaw at Pondugula Village in Palnadu district. The incident occurred at around 4 am on Wednesday.
Locals immediately shifted the injured to Gurajala Government Hospital.
Around 12 women labourers from Telangana were on their way to Pulipadu village, Dachepalli Mandal in Palnadu district to harvest chillies, when the incident occurred.
According to the reports, a lemon-laden truck from Guduru heading to Lucknow hit the auto-rickshaw Pondugala Check Post around 4.42 am and sped away. Even after the accident, the lorry did not stop the vehicle and drove away.
Police teams have visited the spot, formed special teams and identified the vehicle.
This is the third such major accident in a week after seven women were killed when the auto-rickshaw incident in which they were traveling collided with a private bus in Kakinada. In another incident, seven people died when their vehicle hit a truck near Kadapa district while returning from Tirupati.
KCR announced ex-gratia
Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao expressed deep grief over the death of the six labourers. All the victims hailed from Narsapur village of Damaracharla Mandal in Telangana. KCR announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the deceasedās families and Rs 1 lakh to the injured.
