Hyderabad: Police have cracked the abduction case of an overseas job consultant by fake IT sleuths and arrested seven people including the brother-in-law of the victim in Panjagutta. Police have recovered Rs 15.04 lakh from the possession of the kidnappers.

Addressing a press conference, Panjagutta ACP Mohan Kumar said on February 4, police received a complaint from job consultant B.V. Murali Krishna stating that he was kidnapped by five unknown persons from Lal Bungalow Road when he was on his way home on January 27, 2023. He said they also extorted Rs 30 lakh from him.


Police swung into action and formed four teams. They worked on available clues based on mobile phone signals and CCTV cameras. During the investigation, it was revealed that the complainant's brother-in-law, Rajesh, was the mastermind.

He and his cousin Raghavendra intended to kidnap the complainant for ransom. They contacted another accused Jeevan Kumar, a native of Vijayawada and a friend of Raghavendra. The trio formed a gang with Abdul Saleem, Laxmaiah, Krishna Gopal, Srinivas, and Ghouse.

They engaged an Innova vehicle in Vijayawada and came down to Hyderabad on January 26. The next day, they conducted a recce of the area. They posed as IT officials and abducted the complainant and took him to the Batasingaram area.

They demanded Rs 60 lakhs from his wife over the phone. She arranged Rs 30 lakhs and handed it over to Rajesh to release the complainant. On a tip-off, police arrested the accused while driving in the same car in the Musheerabad area.
