Hyderabad: The Cyberabad commissioner of police on Sunday invoked the Preventive Detention Act against two cyber crime offenders and detained them in Cherlapalli central prison, Medchal district.
The two have been identified as Kamalkant Vidyarthi of Bihar and Uttkarsh Singh of Jharkhand.
Singh is a web developer and runs an IT company Digital Chanakya. According to the police, Vidyarthi used to create fake websites of reputed companies and generate Google and Facebook ads in the name of providing loans, tower installations, and franchises of companies. The two men had developed around 26 fake websites of reputed companies, including Medplus and Bajaj Finance.
When people called in response to the ads, Vidyarthi used to pose as an employee of the company and collect the required documents, KYC, and money from them in the name of registration and processing fees.
In 2020 and 2021, Vidyarthi was involved in three offences in the limits of Cyberabad police commissionerate. On 9 April 2021, the cybercrime police arrested him and Singh and seized 64 SIM cards, debit cards, mobile phones, and laptops from them. They were sent to the Cherlapalli central prison.
With a view to preventing them from committing further offences, V.C Sajjanar, the Cyberabad commissioner of police, invoked the PD Act against them and sent them to prison.
