PD Act invoked against notorious interstate ATM burglar

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Commissionerate invoked the PD (Preventive Detention) Act against a notorious interstate ATM burglar and detained him at the Central Prison in Cherlapally on Tuesday.

According to the police, the accused, Waris Khan alias Waris along with his associates - Mohammed Mohin Khadar Khan, Abdul Wahid Khan alias Wahid, Mufeed Shaik, Munazeer alias Munna, and Mohd Zahir Khan alias Tik Talk - hail from Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. They have been known to target cash at ATMs in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State. They also have a record of thefts in Tamil Nadu, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. As per their plan, in December of 2020 they went to Chittoor in a lorry and committed an ATM theft under the limits of Thavanampalle PS of Chittoor district.

In Hyderabad, the gang is said to have committed more than 11 ATM thefts under the limits of Cyberabad and Rachakonda Commissionerates.

When they were caught on 24 December 2020, the police seized Rs 73,060 cash, a Tata Sumo, and other materials from them. To prevent them from committing more offenses and to preserve public order, the provisions of the PD Act were invoked against Waris Khan.
