Police seize ganja after hot chase: Ganja-laden vehicle plunges into reservoir in ASR

However, the ganja-laden vehicle plunged straight into a reservoir near Bhupathipalem. However, one of the two members was apprehended by police after a filmy-style chase in broad daylight.
Based on credible information about the cannabis being smuggled in an SUV from Andhra Pradesh-Odisha Border, the police tried to intercept the vehicle. The SUV sped away without stopping. The cops alerted the nearby police, who also tried to intercept the vehicle but they also failed. The police started chasing the SUV.
In a bid to escape from the police, the driver of the SUV lost control due to over-speeding, and hit a divider, resulting in, the SUV plunging into a reservoir near Bhupathipalem. By the time, the police reached the spot, the driver of the vehicle managed to flee from the spot, while another man was nabbed by the police. The police with the support of a crane retrieved the vehicle from the waters and seized 300 kgs of dry ganja. "We have registered a case and the investigation is on to nab the accused persons in connection with the case," a senior police officer said.
It may be recalled that a similar incident was reported in Vizag district a few months ago.
Yet another filmy-style chase in Narsipatnam in January
In January 2022, a gang of ganja peddlers from Maharashtra created a flutter in Narsipatnam in Visakhapatnam when they tried to escape in a car. However, two of the gang members were apprehended by police after a filmy-style chase. About 240 kg of ganja was seized from the duo. The duo who procured ganja from an interior hamlet in Chintapalli Agency were going to Aurangabad in Maharashtra. They were identified as S Siddharth (21) and L Rohit (21).
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Narsipatnam, V Manikanta Chandolu said a car sped away without stopping at Downuru checkpost. The cops manning the checkpoint immediately alerted Narsipatnam police, who tried to intercept the car. However, the car sped away from the spot and the speeding car rammed into stoppers, and entered the wrong route.
In a bid to escape from the police, two of the occupants jumped into a canal at Peda Boddepalli after alighting from the car. Local people thronged the spot, foiling their escape bid. In the meantime, the police reached the spot and caught hold of the duo. In the melee, one of the gang members managed to escape. The speeding car hit two motorcycles and an auto. But no one was seriously injured in the incident.
