Hyderabad: The Chikkadpally police registered an FIR against six persons for pelting stones and injuring police personnel during the protests that ensued after a student died by suicide.
After the news of 23-year-old Pravalika’s death in her hostel room on October 13 night became public, around 1,000 students gathered in front of Brindhavan Girls Hostel in Chikkadpally and began protesting, blaming the government for her death. They blocked the roads for many hours and did not let the police move her body to a hospital.
During the chaos that followed, police personnel at the site in Ashok Nagar were injured in stone pelting from the angry mob. Eshwarn Nagender, Suresh, Akshay, Ashok (Ashok Coaching Centre director), Rizwan and others were named in the FIR and a case was registered.
On October 14, a complaint was registered by Tarun Kumar, SI of Saifabad police station, in which he stated that on October 13 night he was near Brindhavan Girls Hostel near Ashok Nagar trying to control the crowd. He, along with available staff, was trying to shift the deceased to Gandhi Hospital for autopsy, when the students there started to raise slogans and stopped the police personnel from going.
“The accused started pelting stones upon us and despite repeated requests they hit us with hands and stones, deterring us from discharging our duties, due to which we received bleeding injuries,” said the police in the complaint. ACP KVR Satyanarayana, Saifabad SI Tharun and other police officials were injured in the incident.
Tharun identified the persons who attacked them and lodged a complaint, following which the FIR was registered.
The 23-year-old student was a native of Durgundi in Warangal district and she was staying in a hostel in Hyderabad. During the investigation, the police, who went through the WhatsApp conversations of the deceased, found that she was in love with a person. He promised to marry her and got engaged to another girl. Prior to her death, the deceased had shared her agony with her friends over WhatsApp.
