Rachakonda cops bust online cricket betting racket , Rs 15 lakhs seized

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police busted an online cricket betting racket on Wednesday and seized cash worth Rs. 15 lakh. They also arrested the organizer. On 4 August, the sleuths of SOT LB Nagar zone of Rachakonda commissionerate arrested Shaik Sadiq of Nagarkurnool district and seized cash worth Rs. 15,70,000, four mobile phones, and eight credit cards. They also froze nine bank accounts with a balance worth Rs. 69,63,603. The total worth of the seized property amounted to more than Rs. 95 lakh.
According to the police, Sadiq is a resident of Achampet town in Nagarkurnool district. He moved to Hyderabad five years ago and started organizing online cricket betting. In fact, there are several online cricket betting sites and some miscreants have also developed apps for this illegal activity, the police said.
Sadiq was a sub-organizer who ran online cricket betting by getting IDs from bookies who organize online betting. He said the organizers had designed several online cricket betting sites like UB UAE BET, 8TEAM, and MB MAX INPLAY BET. Sadiq would subscribe to the sites and log in by creating an account using his personal details and get a user ID and password from the bookies by paying Rs. 10,000. The user ID and password is valid for a month.
After Sadiq received the ID, he got in touch with interested punters by contacting them on social media. When any cricket league is scheduled, the accused would send a link to the punters who in turn would subscribe to the link and bet money on the ongoing match by sending the amount to the bank account of the accused. The punters have no direct link with the original organizers/bookies.
After the match, Sadiq would remit the amount from his account to the winning punters based on the points earned by the individuals after deducting his 30% commission. Similarly, he received the winnings in his bank accounts from the organizers.
On Wednesday, the police arrested Sadiq while he was organizing illegal online betting on the Australia Vs Bangladesh second T-20 match and India Vs England test match at his home in Saroornagar.
