Hyderabad: Police have busted a fuel pilferage racket and seized 15,000 liters of diesel meant for GHMC stations. Five persons have also been arrested.

On credible information, Special Operation Team (SOT) of Rachakonda police along with Abdullapurmet police arrested Nadendla Koteshwar Rao, Botha Venu Madhava Rao, Anugu Sudhakar Reddy, Mohamood Awais and Kothuru Venkataiah.

Police said the main accused contractor Ayub Ali Baig is on the run.

As per his contract with GHMC, he is supposed to collect coupons issued before supplying the fuel.

Police said Nadendla Koteshwar Rao was working as subcontract for Ayub Ali Baig. He started running GHMC fuel stations located under the limits of Kavadiguda, Khairathabad, and Malakpet since January, 2020.

The three fuel stations have a storage capacity of 20,000 liters. Under the agreement, Koteshwar Rao had to collect the fuel from Indian Oil facility, Cherlapally, and supply it to the GHMC gas stations. He had submitted the bills to GHMC for claiming the amount.

On the instructions of Nadendla Koteshwar Rao, Kothuru Venkataiah, the driver of the fuel tanker loaded 20,000 liters of diesel at the Indian Oil yard at Cherlapally.

Later he went to the GHMC fuel station at Khairatabad. But, as per their plan, instead of unloading the entire fuel, the driver unloaded only 5,000 liters of diesel.

However, Koteshwar Rao issued receipts for the whole load to avoid suspicion.

"Thereafter, the driver went to the BNR stone crushing unit located in the outskirts of Banda Ravirala village. Another accused followed him. They sold the remaining 15,000 liters diesel to Anugu Sudhakar Reddy, the supervisor of BNR Stone Crushers," police said.

In the meantime, the team of SOT Rachakonda with the help of Abdullapurmet police raided the facility and apprehended the accused and seized the diesel.
