Pramila Babu Mogree from Mumbai, Maharashtra, has been detained and lodged in Chanchalguda special prison for women.
The Rachakonda police said the PD Act was invoked against Pramila in an effort to root out drug smuggling activities and create a sense of safety and security. Pramila was involved in transporting ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Hyderabad and Maharastra via Hyderabad.
In 2019, during a trip to the Aruku agency area in Vishakapatnam, Pramila became acquainted with a person who sold and supplied ganja. She started purchasing ganja from him at a cheap rate then transported the same to Hyderabad and Maharastra and sold it at higher rates. She travelled in buses or trains and hid the ganja in a suitcase.
On 22 November 2019, she was arrested by the Vishakapatnam police with 20 kgs of ganja. She was released on bail. However, she continued to peddle ganja even after her release. Last November, the special operations team (SOT), Rachakonda, along with the Uppal police laid a trap and nabbed her. They seized 18 kgs of ganja and Rs. 5,100 cash from her. She was remanded to judicial custody.
