Rachakonda police seize opium, arrest one interstate smuggler

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police busted an interstate drug syndicate and arrested a drug peddler. They seized one kg opium and other items worth Rs. 30 lakhs from his possession on 3 June.

The seized items include 5.2 kg poppy straw, 2 kg poppy straw powder, and a motorcycle.

The special operations team (SOT), LB Nagar zone, received a tip-off and, along with the Meerpet police, raided and apprehended Parasmal, a businessman residing in Meerpet.

During interrogation, Parasmal confessed that he is running the tours and travels agency Seervi Travels located at LB Nagar and Kachiguda. He further said that recently he came in contact with Deepak, the owner of Shourya Pandit Deva Hotel in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh. Deepak promised to supply opium and promised easy money.

Around five days ago, Parasmal went to Neemuch in his Seervi travel bus and procured opium for Rs. 1.30 lakh per kg and poppy straw for Rs. 50,000 per kg. He returned to the city about three days ago. He prepared poppy straw powder at his house along with opium for sale. He priced the opium at Rs. 8 to 10 lakhs and poppy straw powder at Rs. 3 lakh.

The police are trying to track down Deepak and the customers.
