Rachakonda Police: Two interstate smugglers held; drugs worth Rs 45 lakhs seized

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police busted a drug racket by apprehending two interstate drug peddlers near Malkaram Village outskirts heading towards Thimmaipally village, Keesara under Jawahar Nagar police station limits.

The accused were transporting and selling contraband drugs (Poppy Straw and MDMA) from Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh to Hyderabad. The police seized 40 kgs of Poppy Straw, 10 grams of MDMA, Rs 10,000, three mobile phones and a Wi-Fi dongle. The total seized drugs worth about Rs 45 lakhs, the officials said.




Case details

Disclosing the case details before the media at his office here on Monday, Rachakonda commissioner of police G Sudheer Babu said that the two arrested were identified as Oma Ram and Sanwala Ram. The duo are natives of Rajasthan and earn their livelihood doing carpentering and railing work. Due to financial problems, they decided to earn easy money by selling narcotic drugs.




Elaborating further, the CP said that a few months ago, they came in contact with Vikas aka Mukesh, a native of Madhya Pradesh who is a drug supplier. Since then, they started purchasing Poppy Straw drug and MDMA from Vikas through public transport (buses, lorries, autos etc) and selling it to needy customers in and around Hyderabad.

On Sunday evening, on a tip-off, the SOT LB Nagar team along with Jawahar Nagar police apprehended the accused persons and seized the drugs. ā€œEfforts are afoot to apprehend the absconding accused. The main peddler and source are not available for examination. Measures are being taken to identify the receivers in and around Hyderabad, apprehend the absconding accused and identify the consumers,ā€ Sudheer Babu said.

The CP also appealed to the people and students that procuring, selling, transporting and consumption of banned narcotics and drugs is a crime and punishable by imprisonment for 10 years and also death, according to Section 31 A of the NDPS Act. He also urged society to help the police in curbing the menace.
