Rachakonda SHE teams arrested 79 for eve-teasing in last 8 weeks

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda SHE teams booked 79 cases – 41 FIRs, 27 petty cases, and 11 counselling cases – against eve-teasers in the last eight weeks and apprehended 79 for eve-teasing.

Nearly 30% (23) of those arrested are minors.

The eve teasers attended the counselling session conducted by the Rachakonda SHE teams at the commissioner camp office in Alkapuri crossroads, LB Nagar, along with their family members. They were counselled by professional counsellors from the Bhumika Women's Collective (NGO). Children in conflict with the law were also counselled by a professional psychiatrist.

The Rachakonda SHE team conducted decoy operations at various locations. All those who were apprehended were counselled by professional counsellors from the Bhumika Women's Collective in the presence of their family members. Minors will be counselled by chief consultant psychologist.

The SHE teams also conducted decoy operations and observations in metro trains and caught 11 persons who intruded in the ladies' compartments. They were fined by the metro station master.

Child marriage prevented by SHE teams

The Rachakonda SHE teams, under the leadership of Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh M. Bhagwat and with the cooperation of self-help groups, conducted programmes to raise awareness about child marriages.

In the last two months, the Rachakonda SHE teams stopped 11 child marriages, the Bhongir SHE team stopped one, the Choutuppal SHE team stopped four child marriages and the Ibrahimpatnam team stopped two. The Kushaiguda team and the LB Nagar SHE teams stopped one child marriage each while Vanasthalipuram stopped two.

As of Sunday, a total of 145 child marriages have been stopped by Rachakonda SHE teams. They also rescued 134 minor girls.
