Hyderabad: Police have issued stern warning to students after two separate ragging incidents in Nizamabad and Warangal shocked the state.

Police said students indulging in such acts will face expulsion, criminal prosecution, and long-term consequences.

Case filed against Nizamabad interns

Nizamabad police on Sunday booked five interns of Government Medical College under the Prohibition of Ragging Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhitha. The case was registered following a complaint from Rahul Reddy, a fourth-year MBBS student in the Gynaecology department.

Reddy alleged that the interns, who questioned his attendance, forced him to salute them, made him sit on the floor, and later assaulted him. He received outpatient treatment for injuries.

Collector orders probe

District Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy directed hospital authorities to investigate the incident. In-charge superintendent L. Ramulu maintained that the clash appeared to be departmental in nature, while admitting interns had no authority over attendance.

A three-professor committee has been constituted to probe the matter alongside police investigations.

Nizamabad CP issues warning

Commissioner of Police P Sai Chaitanya cautioned that there would be serious consequences for students indulging in ragging or violence on campus. He urged students to respect peers and asked victims to immediately inform police or concerned authorities.

Warangal CP sounds caution

Meanwhile, Warangal Commissioner of Police Sunpreet Singh, reacting to a ragging case at SR College, warned that offenders will face expulsion and prosecution under criminal law. He stressed that ragging not only traumatizes victims but also ruins the future of perpetrators.

The CP directed institutions to form anti-ragging committees and squads, and to provide special monitoring for newly admitted students.
