Ragpicker killed in Katedan industrial area after plastic bag explodes

Hyderabad: A woman ragpicker was killed after a plastic bag exploded when she tried to open it on the street of Katedan industrial area in Mailardevpally on Sunday morning.

Shamshabad DCP Jagadishwar Reddy said a couple, who is from Kurnool and lives in LB Nagar, comes to the area every day. They found a plastic bag which exploded when they tried to open it. The clues team has taken samples of the cover, the DCP said and added that the reason for the explosion will be determined after further analysis.

He appealed to the locals in the area to inform the police immediately should they identify any fire. "A lot of people dump chemical waste here. Please do not dump hazardous waste," he said adding, "We are verifying the CCTV footage to see who threw the cover there."

Mr. Reddy explained that hazardous waste should be discarded properly and that action would be taken against industries if due precautions are not being taken.
