Rangareddy: Life imprisonment for husband who killed wife in 2021

Hyderabad: A 43-year-old man was given a life sentence on Wednesday for killing his wife last year. On 30 March 2021, the Yacharam police received a complaint from Jarpula Seetharam of Thakkellapalli village under Yacharam mandal in Rangareddy district accusing his brother-in-law of murdering his sister.

According to the complaint, in 1996 Seetharam's elder sister Ramavath Lalitha married Ramavath Sreenu, an auto driver from Thakkellapalli Thanda village under Yacharam mandal. The couple had two daughters and a son. Sreenu was an alcoholic and used to harass his wife, suspecting her fidelity.

Lalitha used to work in a hotel at night, and Sreenu started suspecting her of having an affair. On 29 March 2021, a drunk Sreenu quarrelled with his wife over why she had not prepared food for him. The same night, angered by his wife's insults, he took an axe and struck her with it. The axe hit Lalitha's neck and she died of severe bleeding.

Based on Seetharam's complaint, a case was registered at the Yacharam police station. The police collected evidence, arrested Sreenu, and remanded him to judicial custody.

On 18 May 2022, the MSJ court at LB Nagar convicted Sreenu to undergo life imprisonment.
