Her mother and step-sister were not lucky though and were washed away by the current.
The girl clung to a plastic pipe and called up the police for help.
The incident happened on Sunday when her mother's paramour pushed her and two children from the bridge. While the elder daughter survived, the search is on for the younger baby and mother who were washed away by the current
According to Konaseema district Superintendent of Police P Sridhar, the girl's mother Suhasini (30), a native of Gudivada was in a live-in relationship with Ulava Suresh (30). The woman came in contact with him while working in a hotel at Tadepalli.
Their relationship continued and Sushasini gave birth to a girl, who is one year old now. She was earlier married and had a daughter from her first marriage
On Sunday, Suresh told the family members that they would all to Rajamahendravaram for shopping and drove them to Ravulapalem Goutami Bridge in a car. In the guise of taking a selfie, he stopped near the bridge. Suresh pushed all three of them off the bridge into the river. While the girl survived, her sister and mother got washed away in the waters.
The girl managed to hold on to the pipe, fetched the cell phone from her pocket, and dialed '100' for the police to come and rescue her. About half an hour time since receiving the call, the police managed to rescue the girl. By the time they reached her, she was dangerously holding on to the pipe but police safely pulled her up.
The accused fled the spot in a car. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the culprit.
