Visakhapatnam: Police have arrested 11 people including a rowdy sheeter and two constables for kidnapping a 33-year-old realtor for ransom.


The accused were identified as Kola Venkata Hemanth Kumar, a rowdy sheeter of Bheemili police station limits in Vizag city, Jeereddy Appala Naidu, a police constable from Manyam district, Bimpolu Rambabu, a police constable from Vizianagaram district and eight others from Vizag, Anakapalle and Vizianagaram districts. The victim was identified as Koppoju Madhusudana Rao.

Commissioner of police Ch Srikanth said the rowdy sheeter Hemanth met Madhusudana Rao and told him that he has found a buyer for his villa. He asked him to meet the buyer on February 15. When Rao reached Balaji Bay Mount road, the rowdy sheeter and two others bundled him into a car and snatched a gold chain and four gold rings from him.

Later they took Rao to an isolated place and demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakh for his release. Rao transferred Rs four lakh into the bank accounts of the accused. The rowdy sheeter again demanded money for release.

Rao managed to arrange Rs 8 lakh by pledging the gold ornaments of his wife through his friend on February 16 and won freedom. Later Rao’s family members approached the police seeking action against the kidnappers. The investigation has revealed that the rowdy sheeter during his prison days met constables Appal Naidu and Rambabu, they were jailed for cannabis smuggling.

In January, the rowdy sheeter met his associates and hatched a plan to kidnap Rao. He offered Rs one lakh to each person after the successful completion of the plan. He even paid Rs 5,000 to each as an advance. PM Palem police arrested all the accused and froze a bank account having Rs 7.75 lakh balance.
