Repalle: Two get 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping migrant worker

Bapatla: Bapatla district court sentenced two men to 20 years in jail for raping a migrant worker in April last year.

After hearing the arguments, the court found Palaboina Vijaya Krishna and Paluchuri Nikhil guilty and sentenced them to 20 years in prison.

On April 30, 2022, a 25-year-old migrant worker was gang raped at Repalle railway station in Bapatla. The victim who was from Prakasam district along with her husband and three children was on their way to Avanigadda in Krishna district.

When they took shelter at Repalle railway station, the accused dragged the woman out and raped her on the platform. Her husband who tried to rescue her was also attacked.

Based on the complaint from the victim and her husband, Repalle town police registered a case.

Superintendent of police, Bapatla, Vakul Jindal formed a special team and nab the accused.

Police also filed a chargesheet in the case within 15 days.

On Wednesday, the court found Vijaya Krishna and Nikhil guilty and sentenced the duo to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.

According to Andhra Pradesh DGP Rajendranath Reddy, this case is an example of strict punishment for those who commit crimes against women.

"Out of 122 major cases taken up by the police in the last one year, convictions were secured in 102. 37 got life imprisonment, 62 accused were awarded 7 to 20 years jail term, and three convicts were sentenced to death," said the DGP.
