Rayachoti: Two young software engineers allegedly died due to excessive alcohol consumption during a party with friends at Bandavaddipalli village in K.V. Palli Mandal of Annamayya district.

Drinking challenge during a festive party

According to the police, six friends gathered at Bandavaddipalli village in K.V. Palli mandal to celebrate Sankranti. During the party, two software professionals, Manikumar (34) and Pushparaj (26), reportedly engaged in a drinking contest.

Investigators found that between 3 pm and 7.30 pm on Saturday, the duo consumed a total of 19 Budweiser tin beers, competing with each other over several hours.

Severe dehydration led to death

Police said the excessive intake of alcohol led to acute dehydration, causing both men’s health to deteriorate rapidly. They were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Manikumar succumbed on the way to the hospital, while Pushparaj died later during treatment.

Police statement & postmortem findings

Rayachoti DSP Krishna Mohan on Monday confirmed that preliminary inquiry and postmortem reports clearly indicate excessive alcohol consumption as the cause of death.

“There is no suspicion of foul play. Both deaths were the result of heavy drinking that led to severe dehydration,” he said.
