Saroornagar man gets lifetime imprisonment for raping mentally challenged woman in 2013

Hyderabad: A court sentenced a 36-year-old man to life imprisonment on Friday for the rape of a woman in 2013.

On 10 May 2013, the Meerpet police received a complaint from a resident of Saroornagar mandal who said that Shaik Baba, a painter, had raped his 28-year-old mentally challenged sister. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Meerpet police station in Rachakonda. The police arrested Shaik Baba and remanded him to judicial custody. A charge sheet was filed following the completion of the investigation.

During the trial held on 18 February, the court convicted Shaik Baba to undergo life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000.

CP Rachakonda Mahesh M Bhagwat and Addl. CP G. Sudheer Babu, appreciated the concerned officers for their efforts in getting Life conviction to the accused and announced rewards to them.
