`Savdaan Andhra': Jagan flags off 163 Disha patrolling vehicles

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy flagged off 163 Disha four-wheeler patrolling vehicles on Wednesday.

Purchased for Rs 13.85 crore, the vehicles will have a GPS tracking system for monitoring directly from the District Unit Control Room. These vehicles will be in addition to 900 two-wheelers already in use.

Disha patrolling vehicles have been introduced to curb crime. Several crimes have been reported against women, especially in isolated and remote areas. Every district police have identified vulnerable spots that have previously reported crimes against women.

These vehicles will be patrolling vulnerable spots and risky areas from 5 pm to avoid any untoward incident. During patrolling, Disha staff will also be counseling college students found in isolated areas. Sometimes they will call their parents.

"The state has got 15,000 Disha staff across all urban and rural areas. We have got 1.16 crore Disha app downloads. Women should download the app. They should shake their mobile in emergency and Disha police will respond within 4-5 minutes in urban areas and 8-10 minutes in rural areas", said Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Now, 3,000 emergency vehicles have been connected to the control room at the police headquarters for quick response in case of emergencies.

Mobile restrooms for Disha staff

Women police officers, who are on duty, face difficulties due to the unavailability of washrooms. The state has sanctioned 30 caravans for the field-level duty staff with a budget of Rs 5.5 crore.

On Wednesday, 18 caravans were launched by CM. These new restrooms will have nine lockers for storing valuables, three mobile charging points, an 800-liter water tank, a 1.5 KV fitted inverter, a 3 KV power generator, and external power connectivity.
