Hyderabad: A 55-year-old ayah working at a private school in Shapoor Nagar, Jeedimetla, was arrested for allegedly subjecting a four-year-old nursery student to a brutal physical assault inside the school premises.

The case came to light after a chilling video of the incident surfaced on social media, prompting police action. The school management has also been booked for negligence and violations under the Juvenile Justice Act.

Assault inside washroom caught on camera

Police said the incident occurred when the ayah took the child to the washroom. The accused allegedly repeatedly assaulted the girl, slammed her head on the floor, throttled her neck, slapped her several times and even trampled on her.

The entire episode was captured on a mobile phone by a resident living next to the school. The video was later shown to the child’s mother, triggering immediate medical and legal action.

School ignored mother’s complaint

The victim’s mother, who is also employed at the same school as an ayah, said she first approached the school authorities after seeing the video. However, she alleged that the management failed to take any action.

The injured child was later admitted to a hospital for treatment. “Earlier too, my daughter had complained about being beaten by the ayah, but I did not take it seriously,” the mother, a native of Odisha, told police.

Booked under Juvenile Justice Act and BNS

Based on the video evidence and medical findings, Jeedimetla police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 118 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing hurt. The accused was taken into custody for further questioning.

Child hospitalised, condition stable

Jeedimetla Inspector G Mallesh said the child did not suffer visible external bleeding but sustained internal injuries and severe psychological trauma. “She is extremely frightened and is undergoing treatment. Her condition is currently stable,” the inspector said.

Motive and school records under probe

Police suspect that personal differences between the accused and the victim’s mother may have played a role in the attack. The accused has been working at the school for the last six years.

The ayah has claimed that the child was not formally enrolled at the institution. Police said they are verifying the school records as part of the ongoing investigation.
