Secunderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) raided an unlicensed warehouse and seized medicines worth Rs. 2.2 lakhs in East Marredpally, Secunderabad.

The drugs were being stocked for sale without a valid drug license.

Details of the Raid

The raid was conducted at House No. 10-5-814/1, Ground Floor, Tukaramgate, East Marredpally. The premises, managed by Siddi Sridhar, were found to be illegally stocking 27 types of medicines, including antibiotics and analgesics.

Drugs Inspectors B. Govind Singh (Secunderabad), G. Anil (Malakpet), M. Surendranath (Begumpet), and P. Renuka (Musheerabad) led the operation. Samples of the seized drugs were taken for further analysis.

ā€œThe stocking of drugs for sale without a valid license is a punishable offense under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, which prescribes imprisonment of up to five years,ā€ stated V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, IPS, Director General of the Drugs Control Administration.

The DCA emphasized that wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unlicensed entities would also face legal action. ā€œWholesalers must ensure that recipients hold valid drug licenses before supplying medicines,ā€ the officials added.

Misleading Advertisements of Ayurvedic Medicines

In a separate operation, DCA seized Ayurvedic medicines with misleading claims on their labels. These products falsely advertised treatment for kidney stones and fevers, violating the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

The products seized included:

1. Dava-Tone Syrup: Claimed to treat kidney stones; manufactured by Bhavani Pharmaceuticals, Gujarat.

2. Satapushpa Fruit Churna: Claimed to treat fevers; manufactured by Manphar Ayurvedic Drugs, Vijayawada.

3. Kordifolia Tablets: Claimed to treat fevers; manufactured by Alna Biotech Pvt. Ltd., Haryana, and marketed by Brandoz Pharmaceuticals, Hyderabad.

Drugs Inspectors V. Ravikumar (Balapur), I. Srikanth (Gajularamaram), and S. Viswanath Reddy (Nagarkurnool) led the raids.

ā€œAdvertising medicines for the treatment of kidney stones and fevers is strictly prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act. Action will be taken against offenders who publish such misleading advertisements,ā€ stated the officials.

The DCA urged the public to report any suspicious manufacturing or illegal activities concerning medicines. Complaints can be made through the toll-free number 1800-599-6969, operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on working days.
