Six arrested for selling demonetized Turkish currency in Vizag

Police have arrested six persons including a woman and recovered 300 demonetized currency notes in the denomination of 5 lakh Turkish Lira. Seven mobile phones were also seized from them.

Six arrested for selling demonetized Turkish currency in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: City police busted a gang which was trying to sell demonetized Turkish currency to gullible people in Vizag.

Police have arrested six persons including a woman and recovered 300 demonetized currency notes in the denomination of 5 lakh Turkish Lira. Seven mobile phones were also seized from them.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night when police received a tip off that six people are meeting at Dr. VS Krishna College main gate in the Maddilapalem area to discuss the disbursing of the banned Turkish currency.

Circle inspector of MVP Colony Police P Ramanayya and his staff immediately rushed to the spot and apprehended six persons with the demonetized currency.

Police identified the accused as Bujjala Rama Swamy, 33, Nambari Narayana Rao, 40, Dommeti Satya Venkata Prasad, 46, Dalayi Yashoda, 42, Indila Prudvi Raj, 26, and Muvvala Prasad, 32.

Police said Bujjala Rama Swamy in his confessional statement said that one Ravi from the Veoagunta area of Visakhapatnam gave him 300 currency notes to exchange them with original Indian currency.

Police said the main accused Ravi is absconding and a manhunt has been launched to nab him.
