Srikakulam: 35YO gets 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping 9YO

Special POCSO-Act court in Srikakulam on Thursday sentenced a 35-year-old-man to 20 years in jail for raping a 10-year-old girl. The court also slapped a fine of Rs one lakh on the victim.

Police said that the victim was playing with her friends when the accused G Korlayya alias Abbus forcibly took her to an isolated place and raped her on July 14, 2018.

The victim's mother noticed blood stains. She took the victim to a local hospital. Later, the girl was shifted to RIMS Hospital in Srikakulam town. She was then shifted to KG Hospital in Vizag, where the doctors declared that she was sexually assaulted.

Later the girl narrated the entire episode to her mother. Based on the complaint from the victim's parents, Etcherla police led by Sub-Inspector Y Krishna registered a case. DSP of Srikakulam V Bheema Rao investigated the case and arrested the accused Korlayya under sections 376, 363, 366, and 506 of IPC and section 5 (m) r/w 6 of POCSO Act-2012

Police have completed the investigation procedure and filed the charge sheet. After regular hearings, Special POCSO court judge K Sreedevi sentenced the accused to 20 years in jail and slapped a fine of Rs one lakh, said Special Public Prosecutor Pydi Venkata Ramana Murthy.

Srikakulam police chief appreciated the police team and the public prosecutor for rendering justice to the victim.
