Srikakulam: A 46-year-old woman and her younger daughter died while her son and elder daughter suffered severe burn injuries after they tried to immolate themselves at Yelamanchili village under Jalumuru Mandal in Srikakulam district.

Police suspect that family dispute might have been the reason for the extreme step.

Locals said Chinta Chinnammalu was upset with her husband Narasimha Murthy for ignoring the family.

Chinnammalu poured petrol on herself and three children and set them on fire in the wee early hours on Thursday. The woman was charred to death on the spot.

Three children were rushed to a government hospital with burn injuries. However, her younger daughter Ch Jahnavi (17) succumbed. The condition of two others, Ch Ranjitha and Ch Venkata Sai, is said to be critical.

Police suspect that the land dispute might have strained the relationship between the wife and husband.

Srikakulam police registered a case and the investigation is on to ascertain the exact reasons behind the incident.
