Visakhapatnam: A CISF constable at Steel Plant is suspected to have leaked classified information to a Pakistani woman he met online.

The Steel Plant police registered a case and started interrogating the constable on Monday, in what they suspect to be a honey trap case.

The constable, Kapil Kumar Jagdish Bhai Devumurari has been working at the CISF (fire wing) of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant for the past year. Kapil Kumar was earlier posted at Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL), Bhanur in Hyderabad. The accused Kapil is said to have no access to the steel plant as he was mostly confined to the fire station.

The Vizag city police said that the Inspector of CISF, S Saravanan came to know that the constable Kapil was in contact with a woman, who later turned out to be from Pakistan. The constable was summoned for questioning and his mobile phone was examined. They found the PIO’s name saved as Tamisha on the constable’s phone.

The inspector suspected that Kapil might have passed information about security and the steel plant to the PIO (Person of Indian Origin) and deleted it from the device.

The Vizag Steel Plant police registered a case against Kapil under sections 4, 9 r/w 3 of the Official Secrets Act.

DCP (South-Zone), K Ananda Reddy said that Kapil received a video and some messages from the woman PIO, but he had deleted everything. The mobile needs to be sent to the cyber forensic lab for a thorough investigation. Kapil told the police that he did not send any information to the suspected woman except for some routine greeting messages.

Police found three cell phones

According to the DCP, the constable claimed that he had only two mobile phones in his possession. However, one more Android mobile phone was recovered when his physical belongings were searched by a team on August 4. This led to further doubt that the constable was hiding many aspects of his interactions with the PIO.
